Quick Answers

A free, independent travel guide for Mactan Island, Cebu. We cover island hopping, diving at Hilutungan and Nalusuan, guitar factories, the resort strip, and Cebu day trips — all written from experience, not scraped from other sites. Part of the IN Travel Network.
Yes. Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) is on Mactan Island. When you fly into Cebu, you land on Mactan. The east coast resort strip is 15–25 minutes by Grab from the airport. Two bridges connect Mactan to Cebu City if you want to explore the mainland (30–45 min by road).
2–4 days is ideal. Day 1: island hopping to Hilutungan and Nalusuan. Day 2: guitar factories, Mactan Shrine, and a seafood lunch at Entoy’s Bakasihan. Day 3: diving or resort day. Day 4: Cebu City day trip (heritage walk, Carbon Market, lechon). You could extend to a week if adding Moalboal or Bohol side trips.
Absolutely — it’s the best snorkelling within 30 minutes of Mactan. The marine sanctuary has been protected since 1993 and the reef is dense with barracudas, jacks, and tropical fish. Go early morning for calmer water and fewer boats. Entrance fee is ₱200 for foreigners. Combined with Nalusuan, it makes a superb half-day trip.
The east coast resort strip has the five-star names — Shangri-La, Plantation Bay, Dusit Thani. Maribago area is more mid-range. Mactan Newtown (Lapu-Lapu City side) has modern condos and a man-made beach. Budget stays cluster around Basak and near the airport. If you want beach and diving, east coast. If you want nightlife and food variety, Mactan Newtown.
Mactan has been the guitar-making capital of the Philippines for generations. Barangay Maribago and Abuno are famous for handcrafted guitars and ukuleles. The Alegre Guitar Factory is the most visited, but there are dozens of workshops. Ukuleles from ₱500, concert guitars from ₱3,000. They make great souvenirs and genuinely good instruments.
Honestly, Mactan isn’t a long-beach island. Most of the best sand is behind resort walls. Maribago public beach is the main free option. Mactan Newtown Beach is man-made but well-maintained. Several resorts sell day passes (₱500–2,000) with pool and beach access. If beaches are your priority, Mactan is the gateway to Bantayan, Moalboal, and Bohol — not the destination itself.
Yes. Use the route search tool above to find Cebu–Bohol, Cebu–Dumaguete, and other ferry routes. You’ll complete checkout directly with our booking partner 12Go — digital tickets arrive by email. We don’t handle payments; the provider does.
